A Delicious After Dinner Delight

Angel food cake is a nice way to enjoy a dessert after dinner. Many people will make a dessert cake for bake sales. It is an easy cake that anyone can make with a kitchen aid hand mixer and a few ingredients. It takes less than an hour to bake. Try to use fresh ingredients when baking the cake. There are egg whites that can be purchased at the grocery store. They charge a little more for these. It can be pretty easy to separate the whites from the yokes. It might take a little practice if it is your first time. It might be a good idea to have extra eggs on hand. Making lemon zest is just a matter of grating the lemon.

Go ahead and preheat the oven to three hundred and fifty degrees. Place an oven rack in the center of the oven also. Grab a large bowl for mixing and start mixing a dozen eggs with an electric hand mixer. Set it to medium and work the eggs into a froth. Add one and a half teaspoons of vanilla extract, a tablespoon of lemon zest and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Beat this mixture for five minutes on high.

Slowly add in a cup and a half of powder sugar. For the next two minutes the froth should begin to become more firm. Sift a cup of flour over the mixture. Then take a spatula and fold the concoction it all the flour is mixed in properly. Because the flour was sifted in there should not be too many lumps. If there are lumps then break them down before continuing.

Use a 10 inch nonstick pan for angel food cakes. After pouring the mix into the pan and bake it for forty-five minutes. When the top begins to brown this will indicate that the angel food is done. A toothpick or fork can be used to see if the cake is done. Insert the fork and remove it. If there is no cake on the fork then it is done.

Now the topping of the cake is up to you. There are many ways and flavors to make for the sauce topping. Fresh fruit and a sugar icing can be a simple but delicious topping. There are also many different recipes for different sauces and toppings. Another idea is to drizzle honey on the cake. The sweetness of honey is very light and refreshing.

Angel food is made to have a light topping on it. Frosting is too heavy and is not recommended. Adding sugar to a fruit juice and mixing it with a cuisinart hand mixer can make a light syrupy sauce that will work nicely with the cake.
