How To Make Icing Kids
A Nice Way To Spend Sunday Afternoon
We spend so much time working that we get almost not time to spend with the ones we’re working for – our kids. Even our weekends are filled with activities. Saturdays are often just another work day while we catch up with things we couldn’t get done through the week.
Many of us set aside Sunday as our one day of rest. We need it. We sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast and then, finally, we have time to spend with the kids. By Sunday afternoon, the day is finished and we now have Monday and the weekly grind to look forward to.
Make the most of your Sunday afternoon and bake a cake with the children. Young kids especially love to bake cakes. The extra motivation of having a delicious dessert to look forward to pushes them even more. It’s like a game to them.
Let the kids take charge. Let them choose which cake pan you’re going to use. It’s easy to guess which ones the boys will go for. For some reason, they always choose the square cake pans.
The girls, though, will want to use the heart cake pan. You will probably have to step in and negotiate with them at this stage. You might want to suggest that they compromise by using the round pan. If that doesn’t work, flip a coin. To minimize disappointment, promise the losers that next week they can have the cake pan of their choice.
Wood bar stools are the perfect height for youngsters working in the kitchen. Sit them down and put them to work adding the ingredients and mixing the batter. When they’re done, help them pour it into the cake pan. Put it in the oven and then you can all get started on the icing.
You will have to supervise this closely if you want there to be any icing left for the cake! In fact, it’s a good idea to make extra icing, so they can taste test their creation.
They might not be overjoyed about washing up time, but if you don’t mind them making a little bit of a mess while they’re cleaning, it can be fun, too. You will just need to tidy up a little after them.
While the cake cools, the kids can watch TV. They will certainly want to help you ice it, though. Add a few colorful sprinkles on the top to give it a festive look.
Finally, when time for dessert comes around, the whole family can eat the delicious cake the kids made ‘all by themselves.’ With a little luck, you’ll be able to salvage a couple of slices for their Monday lunch pails. What a great way to finish the weekend!
